Dr Waheed Arian – founder
Dr Waheed Arian’s remarkable life story has inspired millions of people across the world through TV, radio, newspapers and magazines.
He is a sought-after public speaker on leadership and innovation, entertaining and inspiring audiences at medical conferences and other events, including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Goalkeepers Conference 2017, as well speaking at the first TEDxNHS.
Now a senior radiology registrar and emergency medicine doctor in the UK with multiple degrees and awards, Dr Arian spent his childhood in war-torn Afghanistan during the Soviet conflict, where each day saw new risks to his life. He then faced life-threatening illness in a refugee camp before his family sent him to safety in the UK.
Arriving in the UK aged just 15, without formal education and with just a few words of English, Dr Arian amazingly gained the A-Levels he needed to study medicine at Cambridge University. He went on to acquire world-class qualifications and establish Arian Teleheal by his early 30s.
Dr Arian’s achievements have been recognised with the UN-backed Global Hero Award (2017) and the Health Service Journal Highly Commended Rising Star Award (2016), and marked by numerous media organisations around the world.
